Our debt to love: A reflection on the Moms in our lives

A special edition celebrating mothers and their selfless love for us. The Bible talks about a "debt to love" for each other, and moms rock this kind of love.

I was recently discussing with some friends the kind of love Christ modeled to us, and this verse popped-up in our conversation…

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.

Romans 13:8 (NIV)

Through Jesus’s sacrifice, we are free. But according to Paul, we still have a debt to each other.

But this is the type of debt we have the privilege to pay, because it's already been fulfilled by Jesus.

The only thing we owe each other is love. And moms truly model and rock this kind of sacrificial love! ❤️

For the mothers in my life…

To my mother-in-law, thank you for always giving of yourself to our family, your friends, and your church. Your musicality is more than a talent, it’s a reflection of your nature God gifted you.

To my mother, thank you for showing us this kind of love growing up. You modeled true hospitality to my friends that always wanted to come over. You taught me “If you want a friend, be a friend.” And thank you for pouring yourself out for dad and for all of us like Christ poured Himself. Your Italian hospitality is an outpouring of your heart.

To my beautiful wife, Christ shines through you everyday. You create beauty wherever you are, literally and figuratively. Your joy is a balm, and you truly are the light of Christ to us. The way you care for our son, bond with him, and encourage him makes me want to be like you when I grow up 😀. I love you, babes!
